Stem - 02

STEM:
MAVIC (modified) 370 - aluminum alloy - Clear anodized finish - 22.0 mm quill - 26.0 mm size clamp - 115 mm length - single bolt "hidden" quick release / fully detachable lower collar with forward dovetail fitting - pre 1990 solid block letter "MAVIC" logo - "cone nut" style expansion fitting - model 370 : O.M.A.S. stem bolt hardware - aluminum alloy - M7 x 135 mm SHCS stem bolt and cone - model 161 ... [The 370 stem was introduced for the 1984 model year to supplement the original MAVIC 360 and 360 Deluxe stems that bore a strong resemblance to a Cinelli 1A, and it continued on in production through model year 1991 concurrent to the revised model 365 quill stem which itself debuted in 1986. In particular, the version you see here would be a pre 1990 edition having the screen print solid block letter "MAVIC" logo (...although this one is no longer screen printed because that original logo was lost in the process of stripping, polishing, and re-anodizing this stem, and it was subsequently replaced with a high quality die-cut vinyl reproduction) as opposed to the latter etched "open face" style of logo, and it has been modified using vintage aftermarket alloy upgrades. This is a MAVIC version of those clever "quick release" style of stems that are intended to handily obviate the need to remove the bar tape, brake lever, and mounting post from at least one side of your handlebars in order to snake them through a more traditional quill type stem for purposes of installation and/or removal. And while these 370 model stems remain very interesting conversation pieces, they are probably best suited to "static display" only inasmuch as their dovetail joint produces an inherent stress riser which has been known to precipitate premature component failure. For actual riding duty, I will use a more conventional MAVIC model 365 quill stem grafted onto a second set of wrapped 350 handlebars with brake lever mounts which can be quickly "hot swapped" in-or-out as a unit whenever circumstance warrants.]
