Peugeot-Esso-Michelin team rider Gregor Braun is seen here circling the velodrome in Munich after having won his second consecutive World Champion Individual Pursuit title in 1978 (...his first career win in this event had come the previous year in 1977 at San Cristobal). As was convention prior to the year 1993, competition took place over a longer distance of 5000 meters (...i.e. 5500 yards) as opposed to the 4000 meters currently used as the standard for this annual UCI Track Cycling World Championship event.
