Front Derailleur - 01
FRONT DERAILLEUR:
MAVIC 860 - 28.6 mm clamp-on mount - forged 2014 light aluminum alloy construction - C.N.D. (...Couche Noir Dure) hardened anodized inner and outer pivot arms - case hardened steel cage which has been tempered and matte chrome plated - post 1980 channel inset "MAVIC" logo on facing of the hinged clamp - post 1983 and pre 1989 MAVIC solid "block letter" logo on outer pivot arm - model 860 ... [Introduced in late 1983 for the 1984 model year, the MAVIC 860 series of front derailleurs (...models 860 clamp-on mounting / 861 French style brazed-on mounting / 862 Italian style brazed-on mounting) are all simply SSC (...Special Service des Courses) designated, and consequently slightly more refined, versions of the earlier 810 series which continued to be produced concurrently to these new models. The easiest way for even the most casual observer to discern the difference between an original 810 series front derailleur and one of the upgraded 860 series units would be the presence of selective C.N.D. dark anodized finish on the latter as well as the contrasting White MAVIC logo which is vertically oriented across the face of the outer pivot arm. And while the year 1984 also saw the very first of their model 635 triple cranksets built to accommodate an inner chain ring ranging between 32 and 40 teeth, it was not until model year 1988 that MAVIC saw fit to offer a true wide range model 830 front derailleur (...a precursor to their 1990 A.T.B. designated 875 unit) having an extended inner cage plate so as to better accommodate the wider range of gearing typically found in touring applications.]
