Bernard Thevenet (1975)
While this image may grace the cover of the Miroir du Cyclisme Preview Guide as published just in advance of the 1977 Tour de France, the photograph itself dates from the 1975 edition of that very same contest and depicts Bernard Thevenet wearing the Maillot Jaune as he pulls away from Joop Zoetemelk (GAN-Mercier) while ascending the Izoard in stage 16 (Barcelonnette - Serre Chevalier). Thevenet would cross the finish line of stage 16 alone by 2 minutes and 22 seconds, an impressive feat which would ultimately lead to him unseating five time winner Eddy Merckx as the reigning champion of the Tour de France.
