Regis Ovion (1972)

Wearing the rainbow jersey of Amateur World Champion for 1971 (...when he bested a young Freddy Maertens who came in second), this photograph of Regis Ovion taken during the in the 1972 edition of the Harp Lager Grand Prix single day classic in Buckinghamshire graces the cover of the May 1972 edition of International Cycle Sport. Not yet in top form for the season, Ovion was content to assert himself in measured fashion and only when necessary over the 104 mile course, still finishing with a solid third place showing for his efforts.
