The final stage of the 1973 Tour de France, stage 20b from Versailles into Paris proper, was a rather short 89 km affair, the results of which would have little to no bearing on the overall outcome of that year’s race. Still, it was Bernard Thevenet seen here crossing the actual finish line who thrilled the home crowd by winning not only the stage itself, but also by placing second overall in the Tour by 15 minutes and 51 seconds to a strong showing by Luis Ocana.
