MAVIC 430 Super Pro brakeset - 42 mm to 55 mm "short reach" alloy calipers - recessed Allen nut mount - C.N.D. (...Couche Noir Dure) hardened anodized finish - C.P.S.C. compliant "hidden" quick release mechanisms - wire formed steel wheel guides - post 1981 and pre 1990 block lettered "MAVIC" logo on the right side of the caliper arms without any markings on the left side - post 1981 and pre 1990 arched triangular cross-section or first generation "aero" profile caliper arms - post 1985 and pre 1990 natural aluminum Silver colored cable barrel adjusters - Modolo Sinterized type brake pads - 430 Super Pro brake levers - traditional non-aero cable routing - Silver colored non-anodized alloy bodies - "drillium" style C.N.D. hardened anodized aluminum alloy levers with post 1981 and pre 1990 horizontally milled slots - post 1981 and pre 1990 vertical block lettered "MAVIC" logo on facings of the lever arms - Saavedra non-ergonomic replacement Black brake hoods ... [USED - while this is a supremely functional grouping, with respect to its aesthetic condition, I would consider these to be more of a "rider" than show pieces in the truest sense - there is evidence of light oxidization to a couple of the chromed bits (...most noticeably, inside the Allen head of the caliper center bolts - although a dip in Evaporust ought address this minor malady) and the small rubber plug inserts originally fitted to those center bolts and cable fixing bolts are missing entirely (...this has no effect from a functional standpoint, but similar replacements can readily be sourced from most good hardware stores) - there are a couple of very small areas where the C.N.D. finish on the calipers has been nicked (...the bottom right stirrup of the rear caliper and the inner left face of the stirrup on the front caliper - all smaller than the size of a pin head) - perhaps most worthy of mention, the hidden quick release mechanism on the front caliper arms is so "hidden" as to be completely missing: snapped off such that it can now only be operated using the remaining stub (...I take NO responsibility for having broken this myself - of course, you can always replace this part number MO193 with something from your spares drawer or otherwise solicit the CR List Membership for a little help in procuring new one) - the brake levers are in nice state showing no "road rash", only a tiny area of compromise to the C.N.D. finish at the lower tip of one lever - with respect to both the caliper arms and the levers, the White "MAVIC" logos exhibit varying degrees of compromise which could always be addressed with a small brush and a little White paint should someone be so inclined - this particular component grouping was MAVIC's top of the line 430 Super Pro model, or in other words, the label equivalent of the Modolo Professional series and their individual piece parts are completely interchangeable - the entire line of MAVIC brake levers and calipers dating from point of inception in the late 1970's and throughout the 1980's were actually OEM versions produced by the Italian firm Modolo and rebranded specifically for MAVIC - although an ardently chauvinistic Francophile might opine to the contrary. I am of the opinion that this multinational arrangement should rightfully be considered a "good thing" to the extent that the Modolo line of brakes were at that time arguably one of the best in the world; the equal of, and in some cases outright superior to, their esteemed Campagnolo counterparts - if a potential buyer wishes me to also send along an original pair of NOS Black Modolo 919 anatomic brake hoods in addition to the Saavedra replacements already included the scope of this sale, all they need do is please ask and be prepared to part with an additional $35.00 USD]
