Bernard Thevenet is seen here flying along in stage 16b (Bordeaux - le-Lac) of the 1973 Tour de France. This particular day saw a split stage with the early contest comprised of a 210 km race where Peugeot-BP-Michelin teammate and ace sprinter Jacques Esclassan finished second. Thevenet himself crossed the finish line well back into the middle of the pack along with many of the other Tour leaders who were collectively content to reserve their efforts for the individual time trial event held later that day. And it was during the relatively short (...12.4 km) but decisive stage 16b (Bordeaux - le-Lac) where Bernard Thevenet would post a strong second place finish (...a mere single second behind stage winner Joaquim Agostinho), thereby moving himself into second place overall in the 1973 Tour.
