During what would be his second and final season as a member of the Peugeot-BP-Michelin team, Eddy Merckx is seen here riding just ahead of Johny Schleck of Luxemburg (...team Pelforth-Sauvage-Lejeune) during the 1967 edition of the Paris-Roubaix classic. Just as Eddy Merckx’s son Axel would later become a professional rider (...1994 through the year 2007), Johny Schleck (...who rode in the Tour seven times between 1965 and 1974 - twice in support of an eventual Tour winner, in 1968 and 1973) happens to be the father of current professional riders Frank and Andy Schleck of team Leopard-Trek. And while Eddy Merckx would finish in eighth place this time around, he would go on to win the hellish Paris-Roubaix event in 1968, 1970, and 1973.
