Charly Grosskost (1967)
On the heels of a notable amateur career that included road wins at Strasbourg-Campagne and the Route de France, a twenty-two year old Charly Grosskost turned professional with the Peugeot-BP-Michelin team on May 1st of 1966 alongside yet another young cycling phenomenon by the name of Eddy Merckx. And while his career palmarès would ultimately include prologue time trial wins at both the Giro d’Italia as well as the Tour de France, both in the same year 1968, Grosskost had perhaps more consistent success on the track where he would claim the title of French national pursuit champion in 1966, 1968, 1969, 1970, and 1974.
