1983 Tour de France - stage 17 (La Tour du Pin - L’Alpe d’Huez) - 223 km mountain climb including Cucheron, Granier, Côte del la Table, Le Grand Cucheron, Le Glandon, and L’Alpe d’Huez - after breaking his shoulder blade in a crash during stage 11, his first while riding in the Yellow Jersey, Simon was finally forced to abandon the 1983 Tour while still in Yellow some 95 km into stage 17.
