Roger Pingeon (1967)

With participants in the 1967 Tour de France competing as national teams as opposed to trade teams or commercial sponsors (...a circumstance that found Roger Pingeon paired with fellow Frenchmen Lucien Aimar who was the defending Tour champion, and perennial threat Raymond Poulidor as opposed to the likes of Englishman and Peugeot-BP-Michelin teammate Tom Simpson), Pingeon would claim his first Maillot Jaune following stage 5a (Roubaix - Jambes). Seen here climbing the Galibier during stage 10 (Divonne les Bains - Brainçon) of the 1967 Tour just ahead of fellow team France rider Raymond Poulidor, Pingeon would finish fifth in this stage (...just two seconds back of Poulidor who crossed the finish line in third) and retain his lead in the overall classification. In fact, Roger Pingeon was ultimately able to successfully defend the Maillot Jaune throughout the remaining contests and finish the 1967 Tour ahead of all other riders.
