Walter Godefroot (1972)
Peugeot-BP-Michelin team rider Walter Godefroot would claim his second Belgian National Road Championship in 1972 (...both times, finishing just ahead of Eddy Merckx - he had previously won back in 1966). Godefroot is seen here wearing the Belgian national colors while riding just ahead of perennial contender Raymond Poulidor (GAN-Mercier) and teammate Raymond Delisle during the in the 1972 edition of the Tour de France where he would cross the finish line second in stage 2 (Saint Brieuc - La Baule), fourth in stage 4 (Merlin Plage - Royan), first in stage 5a (Royan - Bordeaux), and fourth in stage 20b (Versailles - Paris), but ultimately finish in forty-fourth place overall, some one hour 53 minutes and 56 seconds back of Eddy Merckx.
