Regis Ovion (1973)
In 1973 at twenty-four years of age, Regis Ovion would enter his first Tour de France competition after the Fédération Française de Cyclisme had declined to issue him a professional license the previous year because they sought to maintain his amateur status and eligibility for purposes of allowing him entry to the 1972 Munich Olympics. Ovion would finish tenth place overall in the Tour that year, his best showing in terms of placement over the course of his eleven year professional career.
