During his first ride in the Tour de France, the 60th edition held in 1973, Regis Ovion would finish in tenth place during stage 7a (Divonne-les-Bains - Aspro-Gaillard), tenth place during stage 7b (Aspro-Gaillard - Méribel-les-Allues), ninth place in stage 13 (Bourg-Madame - Luchon), second place in stage 14 (Luchon - Pau), tenth place in stage 18 (Brive - Puy de Dôme), ninth place in stage 20a (Versailles time trial), fifth place in stage 20b (Versailles - Paris), and garner a very respectable tenth place overall in the general classification for that year’s Tour. En route to his second place showing in stage 14, Ovion would sprint around Michel Perin (GAN-Mercier, who would place third for the stage) seen here leading a group of three riders toward the finish line including Ovion and Luis Balagué (La Casera, who would come in fourth for the stage).
