Robert Millar (1985)
A publicity photograph showing Peugeot-Shell-Michelin team rider Robert Millar, winner of the Maillot a Pois Rouges or Polka Dots jersey as King of the Mountains (...i.e. best climber) during the 1984 Tour de France, as published in various cycling journals throughout 1985 touting the “lightweight” nature of the top of the line racing Peugeot PY-10 FC carbon fiber bicycle (...basically a contemporary Vitus Carbone 3 frameset supplemented with five proprietary reinforcement bands at the juncture of all but one end of the three main frame tubes where they enter the aluminum lugs). A very similar photograph to this one was also used in the 1985 U.S. English language edition of the Cycles Peugeot retail catalog, excepting that the rider holding the PY-10 FC bicycle above his head in that instance is Pascal Simon and not Robert Millar, and the bicycle itself is inverted.
Of particular note with respect to the genuine “team issue” bicycle seen here is the rear derailleur affixed, which is to say a specialized Simplex / Spidel LJ 4000 CP “team” edition which has been substantially modified from stock form, as opposed to the Simplex SLJ 6600 T component provisioned as standard equipment on those PY-10 FC models made available to the general public.
