Robert Millar (1983)
Robert Millar made quite an impressive debut in his very first Tour competition by coming home fourteenth overall in the general classification - this despite a particularly nasty crash in stage 3 (Valenciennes - Roubaix) that cost him just shy of 17 minutes. Even more portending of his prodigious prowess as a climber, Millar managed to post a strong third place finish in the mountain classification that year. This particular cover photograph from Cycling Weekly shows Scotsman Millar (Peugeot-Shell-Michelin) riding just ahead of Patrocinio Jimenez (Colombie-Varta) en route to victory during the 201 kilometer stage 10 (Pau - Bagnéres de Luchon) competition of the 1983 Tour de France - a contest which included climbs of the Aubisque, Tourmalet, Aspin, and Peyresourde.
