Jacques Esclassan (1977)
Peugeot-Esso-Michelin team rider Jacques Esclassan is seen here having just crossed the finish line in victory ahead of Gerban Karstens (...a former Peugeot-BP-Michelin rider himself, now competing for TI-Raleigh) to win the 139 km stage 5a (Morcenx - Bordeaux) of the 1977 Tour de France. Esclassan would ultimately finish with 236 points and the Maillot Vert or Green Jersey as that year’s points leader and best sprinter - the first Frenchman to accomplish that feat since Andre Darrigade back in 1961.
