[Absolutely correct with respect to what could have legitimately been specified for a 1978 PY-10 CP other than the very minor exception of my decision to add aftermarket and non-standard stainless steel pedal washers in order to help better protect the anodized finish on the alloy crank arms themselves. In addition, I should like to point out that many of these bicycles I have seen in relatively original state and which happen to date from either 1978 or 1979 had a discrete Spidel sticker affixed to the face of their crank arms just below the spindle mounting hole and above the fluting. Given that this is a particularly early 1978 edition, however, I do not consider the absence of such a decal to be problematic or in any way incongruous. While Peugeot PY-10 CP bicycles built for model year 1978 may have come equipped by default with a Stronglight 105 bis crankset having double chain rings (...although they could also have been specified with a Stronglight model 99 triple crankset suitable for touring), there were still a number of details that one had to address on the custom order form including a choice of crank arm length (...165 mm, 170 mm, 172.5 mm, or 175 mm), individual chain ring sizes (...ranging from 46 to 56 teeth for the outer ring and 38 to 45 teeth for the inner ring, assuming a double - and that inner chain ring could optionally be provisioned having a Black anodized finish as opposed to the standard Clear anodized Silver coloration), and stipulation of English / BSA pedal threads as opposed to what would have otherwise been standard, which is to say French metric threadings.]
PLEASE NOTE: In the time interval between when these "DURING" photographs were taken and my 1978 Peugeot PY-10 CP was actually assembled, I finally managed to source a 40 tooth Stronglight 105 bis inner chain ring to replace that smaller 38 tooth version seen here. The reason that I had sought to affix a 40 tooth inner ring in association with the 52 tooth outer ring was because that particular pairing left no cumbersome gaps or useless duplications with respect to possible gear combinations, at least when used in conjunction with the Maillard 700 Course six speed freewheel having a 14/19 cogset designated for use here.
